Joyya.com is a burgeoning B2B enterprise that blossomed from a three-company merger, combining three distinct brands and their respective markets into a unified ecommerce platform. At the very heart of this joint venture is a foundation of ethical business and fair trade.

In an effort to enrich communities stricken by extreme poverty and human trafficking, Joyya is creating economic stability in places where it usually wouldn’t stand a chance. This initiative yields quality products handmade by craftswomen using 100% organic cotton and eco-friendly dyes/inks. With warehouses based in New Zealand, India, and the United States, they needed a powerful platform to realize their international goals.

The Challenge: Enterprise-Level Customization

From the outset of this project, the BigCommerce platform was the clear choice for all of Joyya’s B2B wholesale needs. However, even with all of the advanced features BigCommerce offers out of the box, Joyya knew they’d need help to achieve the level of customization their growing enterprise required.

Not only did we need to bridge the design gaps between three unique brands, but we also needed to build three streamlined multi-language sites with inventory tracking for each of their warehouses.

The Solution: Rich Custom Feature Development

Throughout the development process, we created several additional features unique to Joyya.com to deliver a more seamless experience when browsing products and managing inventory.

Custom Product Option Grid

To extend BigCommerce wholesale functionality, they opted to purchase our Product Option Grid add-on. This powerful addition allows customers to visualize and purchase product variants with ease. While that system is truly powerful in its own right, we realized Joyya.com would need additional functionality to get the job done. Because most of their products are made-to-order, they needed a way to account for stock levels dynamically on the variant level.

Typically, you’d need to make an individual ajax request for every single variant to achieve this. Fortunately, one of the perks of working with BigCommerce is accessing all of that data in one request through their GraphQL schema. Not only does this provide a better user experience, but it also allows us to create next-level customizations unique to our clients’ needs. This allowed us to tailor the Product Option Grid to their specifications, enabling display of crucial variant data such as minimum purchase quantities.

Custom Scrolling Carousel

Our team created a custom scrolling carousel from scratch that responds to user interaction on other page elements facilitating intuitive UI/UX. Product pages have custom code to handle even the most complex set of product variants and options while streamlining the process for the end-user.

Warehouse Inventory Management Feature

One of the features that set this project apart was linking the same products for each of their three warehouses. If a particular warehouse is out of stock for a specific item, checking the other sites is as easy as clicking a link. These nuances were carefully considered in the final design of Joyya.com and the trinity of ecommerce sites at the heart of their business.

The Design

In terms of design, this project presented a multifaceted challenge — we needed to fuse the unique aesthetics of three different brands while preserving the very fabric that made them stand out. Our designer put together a living assortment of concept pages to establish a collaborative avenue between Joyya’s team and ours.

Riffing off each other’s ideas and insights, we arrived at an iteration that combined extensive custom functionality with a highly intuitive user experience. The palette of colors present in Joyya’s designs is earthy and warm, embodying the humanitarian heart of the organization. The layout is minimalistic and readable yet fully-featured and full of life. These design principles were meticulously woven into Joyya.com, making the site a joy to navigate.
